The HP CHI Chip, or The Hewlett-Packard CPU-to-Hewlett-Packard-Interface-Bus

About this Artwork:

This artwork is a closeup of a Hewlett-Package (HP) 1AA7-6002 computer chip that was used to allow HP computers to talk with tape, disk, and laboratory devices.  In the artwork, you can see blue areas. Those are the transistors that create the logic of the chip.  The yellow and green lines are the traces that connect the transistors together. The image was created with a strong side light that gives a feeling of a ray of light. This chip was called a CHI chip, short for CPU-to-Hewlett-Packard-Interface-Bus. It was made in 1981, it was used to allow the computer to talk to daisy-chained, or star network, connected devices using the IEEE-488 bus standard. It was an impressive bit of technology and engineering in its day.

Framing:  

The artwork is framed in an 8"x 8" black shadow box frame, with glass. All framing materials are acid-free. A narrative about the artwork that includes the artist’s signature is placed on the back of the artwork.
