About this Artwork

This artwork is my fourth in a series of Intel's microprocessors. These Intel microprocessors represent Intel’s non-x86 architecture microprocessors. For a company known for microprocessors, these microprocessors have not had much press. Whereas Intel wanted to make sure the public wanted its microprocessors in their PCs, these microprocessors were hidden from the public’s eye. Not on purpose, but because the customers for these microprocessors were car makers, automation equipment makers, PDA makers, phone makers, robot makers, etc. These chips were not targeted at consumers but at the companies that made things consumers wanted. Intel was there to make their lives easier and their products better.

Some Intel families are prefixed with MCS for Micro Computer System. The Intel x86 architecture was the MCS-86 family. The Intel 4004 through the 8085 were originally considered their own families, but time blurs memories and most people trace the x86 architecture all the way back to the 4004. The 8008 might be considered an ancestor of the x86 family, but the 4004 was a different animal altogether… oh well. So, this collection of microprocessors is just Intel’s “Other” microprocessors.

Here is list of the microprocessor families represented in this piece: The Intel 3002 (chip: Intel D3002), Intel MCS-48, also known as the 8048 (chips: house number 7817 and Intel D8748), Intel MCS-51 (chips: R8751H and P8051AH), Intel MCS-96 (chips: Intel AN87C196CA and Intel C8095-90), Intel i960 (chip: FC80960HD66), Intel i860 (chip: A80860XP-50), Intel StrongARM (chip: GSD1110BC), and Intel XScale (chip: PXA270C5C416)

Framing

The artwork is a 16"x20" in a black shadow box frame, with glass. All framing materials are acid-free. A narrative about the artwork that includes the artist’s signature is placed on the back of the artwork.
