Item066: IBM ASIC Chip Pendant - IBM Large Systems Chips
ChipScapes
About the Necklace
This pendant was made with a piece of a 12” silicon wafer. The chips on this 2006 wafer were very large, 20mmx23mm. These chips were custom logic used in IBM’s large system computers. Under this card is a micro-photo of a 0.1x0.1mm section of the wafer. This wafer had about a hundred chips on it. Today, the vast majority of chips created are unique chips used for a specific purpose. We call these chips Application Specific Integrated Circuits or ASICs. These chips are made for computers, vehicles, vending machines, appliances, tools, toys, phones, cameras, etc. Any machine that is smart, has one or more of these chips in it. For example, a car can have hundreds of computer chips in it.
Included:
The 1" square stainless steel pendant (due to manufacturing differences your chip may look slightly different than the one pictured here), a 24" stainless steel chain necklace, and a ChipScapes card that gives information about this jewelry.
