Hybrid Logic Chip
About this Artwork:
You are looking at a picture of a hybrid chip. The actual chip is in the upper right corner. Hybrid chips are sort of miniature circuits boards with multiple components connected together. This particular hybrid is built on an eight-sided piece of white quartz. The green and turquoise lines are traces that were etched on the quartz. These, along with the gold interconnect wires, are used to connect the components together. The components on this hybrid are six computer chips (the colorful rectangles), and four resistors (the silver rectangles). Although resistors could be fabricated on chips, the higher current required for this circuit required the resistors to be created as thick film devices off of the chip. You can see how the traces on the quartz are soldered to the tops of the leads to connect the hybrid chip to the outside world.
Framing:
The artwork is framed in an 8"x 8" black shadow box frame, with glass. All framing materials are acid-free. A narrative about the artwork that includes the artist’s signature is placed on the back of the artwork.
Please note: The look of the artifacts in the artworks may vary, each piece is unique.
