About this Artwork:

This artwork describes the process of making computer chips. It focuses on the devices that came before the chip and how they influenced chip design. It includes an early silicon wafer and some of the discrete components that can be found in a computer chip. The chips on the wafer are large enough to be seen with the naked eye. The 2708 EPROM has the memory chip visible because of the quartz window used to erase it.

Before computer chips, electrical devices such as transistors, resistors, diodes, and capacitors were individual components and were wired together on circuit boards. Some brilliant people figured out how to miniaturize and flatten these components and connect them on computer chips. Computer chips can incorporate billions of microscopic discrete components on a single silicon chip, hence the term integrated circuit.

Framing:

The artwork is framed in an 8"x10" black shadow box frame, with glass. All framing materials are acid-free. A narrative about the artwork that includes the artist’s signature is placed on the back of the artwork.
