Item065: FPGA Chip Pendant - Gatefield FPGA Chips from a Silicon Wafer
About the Necklace
This pendant is made from an upcycled 1997 FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) silicon wafer. An FPGA is a flexible semiconductor device that can be programmed after manufacturing to perform custom hardware tasks. It consists of configurable logic blocks and interconnections, allowing users to implement complex digital circuits. The photo below is part of a single cell of the FPGA chip on this silicon wafer. The wafer was six-inches and was made by GateField Corp. The wafer had 43 large, 14mm x 18mm, chips on it. These were ProASIC GF260F FPGA chips. Each chip had over 300,000 gate array equivalents.
