Chipzilla - Mug
About the Artwork
The subject of this artwork is a hybrid chip used for converting analog signals into digital bits. It is called a hybrid chip because it combines regular silicon chips with discrete components connected on a ceramic board. I created this image while listening to Halloween music, which inspired the autumn colors. The Chipzilla name comes from my use of two identical images and superimposing them over each other, but they are significantly offset from each other. This created a deformed or "monster" version of the chip. Perhaps not so scary, but it does create an interesting pattern. You might notice that the large chip near the left-center of the artwork is repeated nearby.
