The Photovoltaic Effect - Polycrystalline and Monocrystalline Solar Cells - Interactive Display - Solar Power,Silicon Wafer
ChipScapes
About this Artwork
This is an artwork created to highlight solar power and its relation to semiconductor chip technology. The artwork describes the photovoltaic effect and its discovery. It describes how solar cells are made. The two types of silicon solar cells monocrystalline and polycrystalline are described. In addition, the artwork contains three functioning polycrystalline cells connected to an LCD voltmeter. The voltmeter allows the viewer to experiment with the amount of light shined on the display and its change in voltage produced. The voltmeter requires an external USB power supply. There is a 32" USB cord on the reverse of the artwork. The artwork also has a four-inch monocrystalline silicon wafer/solar cell.
Framing
The artwork is a 16"x20" in a black shadow box frame, with glass. All framing materials are acid-free. A narrative about the artwork that includes the artist’s signature is placed on the back of the artwork.
Please note: The look of the artifacts in the artworks may vary, each piece is unique.
